High Gain Antenna Mounted on the Flyby Spacecraft

The antenna has a 0.25 degree gimbal allowing the antenna to rotate so that it points continuously at Earth as the spacecraft flies past comet Tempel 1. This allows the spacecraft to view the impact and follow crater development, an event expected to last just 14 minutes.
